Platinum Hallmark
Platinum Hallmark Question: hi there i hope you can help me
Price: $31.50
i have recently inherited my grandmothers engagement ring
i think it is platinum but don’t know what the hallmark means
i think it it is stamped 1308 PLAT 21
can you identify what this means for me ?
Answer: G’day Emma and many thanks for your query.
You are correct in assuming it is Platinum, as the old hallmark was simply the word PLAT to indicate pure platinum.
These days it is mixed with other metals in an attempt to keep the prices down, so you see marks like PLAT850 or 900PLAT to show the number of parts-per-thousand of platinum, the remaining parts are other metals like Iridium or Copper etc.
The other marks may just be a store or makers identification mark - but could also have been added later to commemorate a date - like the 13th of August 1921 (130821).
Sorry I can’t be of any more help. Best you just enjoy it!
